A. Standard Abstract

Future cognition increasingly operates through:

  • AI assistants
  • decision-support systems
  • autonomous agents
  • recommendation systems
  • algorithmic information environments
  • synthetic content ecosystems
  • augmented cognition systems
  • human-AI collaboration environments
  • machine-mediated decision systems
  • future cognition-enhancement technologies

Yet most systems still assume that human cognition remains naturally independent.

This creates a major governance problem.

A human may continue making decisions while:

  • outsourcing judgment
  • accepting conclusions without evaluation
  • losing metacognitive awareness
  • becoming cognitively dependent
  • accepting synthetic certainty
  • inheriting machine assumptions
  • weakening independent reasoning

A person may therefore remain decision-capable while cognition underneath
becomes progressively less autonomous.


HCIS exists to govern that condition.

This standard may apply to:

HCIS defines the operational architecture space for:

This space exists because future cognition increasingly involves
non-human cognitive participants.


HCIS governs whether human cognition remains genuinely human

G. Difference Between Human Participation and Human Cognition Integrity

Human participation and human cognition integrity are related
but structurally distinct.


Human participation governs:

  • whether a human is present
  • whether a human approves
  • whether a human interacts
  • whether a human receives information

Human cognition integrity governs:

  • whether judgment remains independent
  • whether cognition remains autonomous
  • whether assumptions remain visible
  • whether reality alignment remains preserved
  • whether responsibility remains owned

A human may participate while cognition itself becomes externally dependent.

HCIS therefore governs cognition integrity rather than participation alone.

J. Validity Logic

A human cognition system is valid under HCIS when:

  • judgment remains independently exercisable
  • metacognitive awareness remains active
  • reality alignment remains preserved
  • cognition remains autonomous
  • assumptions remain challengeable
  • responsibility remains human-owned
  • external cognition remains governable

A human cognition system becomes invalid under HCIS when:

  • judgment is materially outsourced
  • metacognitive awareness collapses
  • cognition becomes externally dependent
  • assumptions become inherited without evaluation
  • responsibility becomes displaced
  • synthetic certainty replaces independent evaluation
  • cognition autonomy cannot be demonstrated
