Canonical Definition
Validation Applicability Mapping Module (VAMM) defines thegovernance framework for identifying, mapping, bounding,
documenting, and maintaining the conditions under which a validation
and its resulting determination may legitimately apply.
It establishes the conditions necessary to connect validation to the
specific uses, environments, populations, jurisdictions,
configurations, operating conditions, time periods, decision
contexts, dependency states, and other circumstances for which the
validation was designed and performed.
Operational Role
VAMM governs the applicability layer of Validation Purpose &Scope governance.
Its role is to establish where, when, how, and under which
conditions a validation may legitimately apply before its eventual
determination is interpreted or relied upon.
VAMM prevents validation from becoming detached from the conditions
under which it was established.

Module Function
VAMM applies wherever a validation result may later be used,transferred, interpreted, referenced, or relied upon.
Its function is to prevent:
- validation performed for one use being automatically applied to another,
- validation established in one environment being generalized to materially different environments,
- validation for one population being extended to unexamined populations,
- validation applying indefinitely despite temporal change,
- validation being transferred between materially different configurations,
- jurisdiction-specific validation being represented as universally applicable,
- dependency changes being ignored,
- and validation determinations being relied upon outside their governed conditions.
Applicability Dimensions
Validation applicability may depend upon multiple dimensions.Use Applicability
Defines the uses, functions, purposes, or applications for which
validation is intended to support interpretation or reliance.
Operational Applicability
Defines the operating conditions, workflows, deployment modes, and
operational circumstances under which validation applies.
Environmental Applicability
Defines the technical, physical, organizational, social,
institutional, or other environments covered by validation.
Population Applicability
Defines the users, affected persons, groups, datasets, subjects,
customers, operators, or populations for which validation
is applicable.
Jurisdictional Applicability
Defines the legal, regulatory, geographic, institutional, or
governance jurisdictions within which validation may be applicable.
Temporal Applicability
Defines the period, lifecycle stage, operational window, or
time-dependent conditions within which validation
remains applicable.
Configuration Applicability
Defines the versions, configurations, deployment arrangements,
interfaces, components, or system states to which
validation applies.
Decision-Context Applicability
Defines which decisions or decision environments the validation is
intended to support.
Dependency Applicability
Defines the external dependencies, services, data sources,
infrastructure, relationships, or other conditions whose continued
existence or state affects validation applicability.
Applicability Mapping
VAMM converts applicable validation conditions into a structuredValidation Applicability Map.
The map should make it possible to determine:

Legitimate Applicability
The Validation Applicability Map may identify:
- applicable conditions,
- non-applicable conditions,
- conditional applicability,
- known applicability boundaries,
- unresolved applicability areas,
- and conditions capable of terminating or modifying applicability.
Minimum Implementation Framework
1. Identify Applicability DimensionsDetermine which use, operational, environmental, population,
jurisdictional, temporal, configuration, decision, dependency, or
other dimensions materially affect validation applicability.
2. Define Applicable Conditions
Establish the conditions under which the validation is intended
to apply.
3. Define Non-Applicable Conditions
Identify known conditions under which the validation should not be
interpreted as applicable.
4. Establish Conditional Applicability
Where applicability depends upon specific assumptions or continuing
conditions, document those conditions explicitly.
5. Preserve Applicability Traceability Maintain:
- applicability dimensions,
- applicable conditions,
- non-applicable conditions,
- conditional applicability,
- assumptions,
- applicability changes,
- relationship to Validation Purpose and Scope,
- timestamps,
- and sufficient traceability throughout the validation lifecycle.
Applicability Is Not Scope
VAMM preserves an important methodological distinction.Validation Scope determines what validation examines.
Validation Applicability determines where the resulting validation
may legitimately apply.
These may overlap, but they are not identical.
A validation may examine a system under a defined set of conditions
while the resulting determination remains applicable only to a
subset of operational uses.
Likewise, broad technical examination does not automatically
establish broad operational applicability.
Applicability Expansion
A request to apply validation beyond its established applicabilitydoes not automatically extend the existing validation.
Expansion may involve:
- new use cases,
- new populations,
- new environments,
- additional jurisdictions,
- different configurations,
- higher-consequence decisions,
- changed dependencies,
- or extended time periods.
Before applicability is expanded, VALIDOS™ governance should
determine whether the existing scope, depth, criteria, methodology,
evidence, and execution sufficiently support the proposed expansion.
Where they do not, additional validation or revalidation may
be required.
Applicability Contraction
Applicability may also need to be reduced.This may occur where:
- new limitations are discovered,
- operating conditions change,
- dependencies deteriorate,
- evidence becomes outdated,
- regulatory conditions change,
- object behavior changes,
- or new validation information reveals that previous applicability was too broad.
VAMM allows validation applicability to contract without requiring
the entire Validation Object to be automatically classified
as invalid.
Applicability Change Governance
Material changes affecting applicability must remain governable.A change should trigger reassessment where it may alter whether the
existing validation remains suitable for:
- the intended use,
- operational environment,
- relevant population,
- jurisdiction,
- configuration,
- decision context,
- dependency structure,
- or time period.
VAMM therefore creates an important bridge to later Validation
Reliance & Revalidation governance.
Use Case 1 — AI Model Across Jurisdictions
ScenarioAn AI model has been validated for a defined financial-service
application within one regulatory environment and is later proposed
for deployment in another jurisdiction.
Application
VAMM identifies jurisdiction as a material applicability dimension
and determines that the original validation does not automatically
establish applicability within the new regulatory environment.
Result
The original validation remains intact while its applicability is
correctly bounded until the additional environment is governed.
Use Case 2 — Healthcare AI Across Populations
ScenarioA healthcare AI system is validated using data and operating
conditions representing a defined patient population.
The organization later proposes its use for a materially
different population.
Application
VAMM identifies population applicability as a governed condition and
prevents the existing validation determination from being
automatically generalized.
Result
The system may remain validated for the original population while
additional validation is considered for the proposed population.
