Canonical Definition
Validation Object Identification Module (VOIM) defines thegovernance framework for uniquely identifying, referencing, and
distinguishing the subject to which validation governance applies.
It establishes identification methodology, reference requirements,
distinguishability conditions, identity continuity principles, and
governance controls necessary to ensure that every Validation Object
can be reliably separated from other objects, instances, versions,
configurations, states, or representations throughout the
validation lifecycle.
Operational Role
VOIM governs the identification layer of ValidationObject governance.
Its role is to ensure that every Validation Object receives a
sufficiently precise and persistent identity reference before
validation scope, criteria, methodology, evidence, execution,
determination, state, or reliance governance begins.
Module Function
VOIM applies wherever validation requires certainty about whichexact object is being examined.
Its function is to prevent:
- ambiguous validation subjects,
- confusion between similar objects,
- incorrect association of validation results,
- validation transfer between non-equivalent objects,
- unidentified object substitution,
- and loss of object continuity during validation.
Minimum Implementation Framework
1. Define the Identification ObjectIdentify the candidate subject requiring validation and determine
which characteristics are necessary to distinguish it from
other objects.
2. Define Identification Requirements Establish:
- object name or reference,
- unique identifier where applicable,
- object type,
- object instance,
- owner or responsible reference where relevant,
- configuration or state references where needed,
- persistent identification requirements.
3. Define Identification Validation Logic
Verify that the Validation Object:
- can be uniquely referenced,
- can be distinguished from materially different objects,
- cannot be confused with another relevant instance,
- remains traceable throughout validation,
- and retains sufficient identity continuity for subsequent governance activities.
4. Define Governance Response
Establish procedures for:
- ambiguous identity,
- duplicate object references,
- conflicting identifiers,
- unidentified substitutions,
- incomplete identification,
- identity reassessment,
- and escalation where object identity cannot be reliably established.
5. Preserve Identification Records
Maintain:
- object identifiers,
- reference records,
- identification decisions,
- supporting documentation,
- identity changes,
- validation linkage records,
- timestamps,
- and complete governance traceability throughout the validation lifecycle.
Use Case 1 — AI Model Validation
ScenarioAn organization intends to validate an AI model that exists in
multiple releases and deployment environments.
Application
VOIM establishes the exact model instance subject to validation and
creates a persistent reference distinguishing it from previous
releases, experimental versions, and production variants.
Result
All subsequent validation activities remain connected to the exact
AI model actually examined.
Use Case 2 — Claim Validation
ScenarioA governance process evaluates a factual claim that has appeared in
several slightly different formulations.
Application
VOIM identifies the exact wording and representation of the claim to
which validation applies and distinguishes it from materially
different versions.
Result
The validation determination remains attached to the precise claim
that was examined rather than being incorrectly generalized to
other formulations.
