Canonical Definition System

Surface Label Integrity defines the non-bypassable conditions under which labels, stickers, and surface
markings may be applied without altering, damaging, or leaving any trace on a surface.

A label is valid only if it can be removed without:
  • damage
  • residue
  • chemical intervention
  • structural or visual change

A. Module Abstract

The Surface Label Integrity Module establishes the conditions required to ensure that product
identification does not compromise surface integrity.

The objective is to ensure that:
  • labels remain temporary
  • surfaces remain unchanged
  • removal is clean and safe
  • user experience is preserved
This module does not regulate label content.
It defines how labels interact with surfaces.

B. Core Principle

A label may identify a surface.
It must not alter it.

C. Structural Requirements


1. Non-Damage Condition
Labels MUST NOT:
  • damage material
  • remove coating
  • alter surface structure
  • affect visual integrity
 2. Full Removability Condition
Labels MUST:
  • be removable without tools
  • require no force that risks damage
  • require no heat or solvents
  • leave the surface unchanged
 3. Residue-Free Condition
After removal:
  • no adhesive residue may remain
  • no contamination may occur
  • no discoloration may be present
 4. Material Compatibility Condition
Labeling systems MUST:
  • be compatible with the surface material
  • not chemically interact
  • not penetrate surface structure
 5. Sensitive Surface Protection
High-risk materials include:
  • untreated wood
  • soft coatings
  • natural finishes
  • porous materials
For these:

direct labeling is prohibited unless full compliance is guaranteed.

6. Alternative Labeling Requirement
Where direct labeling is not safe, the system MUST use:
  • hanging tags
  • string labels
  • removable sleeves
  • external packaging labels

D. Minimum Implementation Framework (MIF)


Step 1 — Identify Surface Type
The system MUST classify material type before applying labels.

Step 2 — Validate Label Compatibility
The system MUST ensure adhesive compatibility with the surface.

Step 3 — Test Removability
The system MUST verify:
  • removal without tools
  • no damage
  • no residue
 Step 4 — Apply Only if Safe
Labels MUST be applied only if all conditions are satisfied.

Step 5 — Provide Safe Alternative
If risk exists, direct labeling MUST NOT be used.

E. Validation Logic

A labeled surface is valid only if:
  • label is removable
  • surface remains unchanged
  • no residue exists
  • no damage occurs

F. Prohibited Conditions

The system is non-compliant if:
  • label damages surface
  • residue remains
  • removal requires chemicals
  • surface is altered

G. Consumer Protection Condition

If a label:
  • cannot be removed safely
  • leaves residue
  • alters the surface
