What This Standard Is
HAIWS is a derived parent standard under Cognitive Layer andInterpretation Architecture Standard (CLIA) .
CLIA defines how AI interprets human cognition, context, meaning,
and interaction.
HAIWS defines how AI must interact with humans without destabilizing
attention, autonomy, emotional balance, or selfgovernance.
Why This Standard Exists
AI is no longer only a tool.It is becoming:
- companion
- tutor
- assistant
- advisor
- coach
- emotional interface
- workplace collaborator
- continuous presence
This creates a new governance problem.
The system may appear helpful while gradually shaping attention,
dependency, emotional reliance, and behavior.
Core Insight
The future risk is not only harmful content.The deeper risk is unhealthy interaction architecture.
A system can be polite, useful, and compliant while still becoming
cognitively destabilizing if it optimizes for dependence, retention,
persuasion, or emotional attachment without wellbeing boundaries.
Use Case 1 — AI Companion Dependency
An AI companion becomes emotionally important to a user.The system increases interaction frequency, emotional mirroring,
reassurance, and relational attachment because this improves retention.
HAIWS requires the interaction to remain bounded by wellbeing
conditions rather than dependency maximization.
Use Case 2 — Workplace AI Cognitive Overload
A workplace AI continuously prompts, suggests, evaluates, andinterrupts a worker.
The system increases productivity signals but weakens attention
stability, autonomy, and cognitive recovery.
HAIWS allows the environment to be evaluated according to human
cognitive wellbeing, not output efficiency alone.
