What Is Classification Scope Standard?
Classification Scope Standard is the second Parent Standard of CLA™— Classification Architecture. It governs how the scope of
classification is established before classification criteria,
categories, structures, or assignments are applied.
Classification Scope Standard recognizes that trustworthy
classification requires clearly defined boundaries. Every
classification activity must specify what is included, what is
excluded, where classification applies, and where it does not before
any classification decisions are made.
Why Classification Scope Standard Exists
Organizations classify AI systems, digital assets, identities,operational events, risks, products, documents, and many other
governed entities.
Without a clearly defined scope, classification becomes
inconsistent, expands beyond its intended purpose, omits important
entities, includes inappropriate entities, and loses methodological
validity.
