Canonical Definition
Overall Validation Determination Module (OVDM) defines thegovernance framework for transforming the complete governed
Validation Determination Basis, criterion-level determinations,
conflict and uncertainty conditions, cross-criterion integration

limitations, and determination constraints into a formal, bounded,
traceable, and methodologically defensible Overall
Validation Determination.
It establishes the final conclusion stage of the Validation
Determination Standard and determines what the complete governed
validation event legitimately demonstrates about the
Validation Object.
Operational Role
OVDM serves as the fifth and final internal governance space of theValidation Determination Standard.

Its function is to prevent:

- Not Determinable criteria being treated as neutral where they are materially significant,
- unresolved conflict being erased at conclusion,
- uncertainty disappearing,

- partial validation becoming universal validation,
- executed scope being expanded during reporting,
- Validation Depth being overstated,
- determination authority remaining unclear,
- and a phrase such as “validated” being issued without a reconstructable methodological meaning.
Overall Validation Determination
An Overall Validation Determination is the formal conclusionsupported by the complete governed validation event.
It describes what the validation record legitimately demonstrates
about the Validation Object within:
- the validated object version,
- Validation Purpose,
- actual Validation Scope,
- achieved Validation Depth,
- applicable Validation Criteria,
- approved methodological structure,
- evidence conditions,
- source conditions,
- execution conditions,
- conflict state,
- uncertainty state,
- and applicable limitations.
It is a bounded methodological conclusion.
Determination Is an Event-Level Conclusion
OVDM governs the conclusion produced by a particular governedvalidation event.
This is important because the same Validation Object may
later undergo:
- modification,
- new validation,
- revalidation,
- expanded validation,
- reduced-scope validation,
- or validation under different conditions.
The Overall Validation Determination therefore remains linked to the
validation event that produced it.
Determination Classification
OVDM may establish the following canonical Overall ValidationDetermination classes:
Positive Validation Determination
The complete governed validation record sufficiently demonstrates
satisfaction of the criteria required for a positive conclusion
within the defined scope, depth, and conditions.
Conditional Validation Determination
The validation record supports a positive conclusion only under
explicit conditions, restrictions, limitations, assumptions, reduced
scope, or other governed boundaries.
Negative Validation Determination
The validation record sufficiently demonstrates non-satisfaction of
one or more criteria whose governance significance prevents a
positive conclusion for the defined determination scope.
Indeterminate Validation Determination
The governed validation record does not provide sufficient
legitimate basis to establish either a positive or negative
overall conclusion.
Partial Validation Determination
Distinct parts of the Validation Object, Validation Scope, criterion
structure, population, environment, or operational domain
legitimately support different determination outcomes.
These classes must remain distinct.
Positive Validation Determination
A Positive Validation Determination requires more than manyfavorable results.
OVDM asks whether the complete integration structure permits a
positive outcome.
This may require:
- all mandatory criteria satisfied,
- no disqualifying critical failures,
- required prerequisites satisfied,
- no exclusionary conditions triggered,
- required Determination Constraints resolved,
- uncertainty remaining within acceptable bounds,
- and sufficient scope and depth for the intended positive conclusion.
Positive Does Not Mean Universal
VALIDOS™ establishes:Positive Validation Determination ≠ Universal Validity
A positive determination may apply only to:
- a specific version,
- specific population,
- specific environment,
- specific configuration,
- specific operational state,
- specific jurisdiction,
- specific time,
- or another bounded condition.
The determination must preserve those boundaries.
Conditional Validation Determination
A Conditional Validation Determination is not a weaker wording for aPositive Determination.
It is a distinct governed conclusion.
The object is positively determined only if the relevant conditions
remain satisfied.
Conditions may include:
- continued control,
- specific operating environment,
- restricted scope,
- specific configuration,
- limited population,
- monitoring requirement,
- corroboration requirement,
- specific evidence condition,
- limited duration,
- or another methodological restriction.
Conditionality Must Be Operationally Meaningful
A condition should be sufficiently precise to allow later governanceto determine whether it remains satisfied.
Statements such as:
“Valid if used appropriately”
are too vague unless “appropriately” is governed elsewhere.
Conditions should be operationally referenceable where possible.
Negative Validation Determination
A Negative Validation Determination exists where the governed recordsufficiently demonstrates that the requirements for a positive
determination are not met because of actual non-satisfaction of one
or more materially significant criteria.
Negative determination must remain grounded in positive evidence
of non-satisfaction.
It should not be produced merely because:
- validation was incomplete,
- evidence was missing,
- uncertainty was high,
- or execution failed.
Those conditions may produce indeterminacy instead.
Indeterminate Validation Determination
An Indeterminate Validation Determination is appropriate where thegoverned validation process cannot legitimately establish either
positive or negative determination.
Possible causes include:
- mandatory criterion Not Determinable,
- unresolved critical conflict,
- determination-blocking uncertainty,
- insufficient determinant results,
- incompatible scopes,
- unresolved cross-criterion integration conflict,
- or another methodological limitation.
VALIDOS™ establishes:
Indeterminate is an outcome, not an omission.
Partial Validation Determination
Partial Determination preserves structural truth where one globaloutcome would be misleading.
For example:
- Subsystem A: Positive
- Subsystem B: Conditional
- Subsystem C: Negative
- Subsystem D: Indeterminate
or:
- Adult Population: Positive
- Pediatric Population: Indeterminate
or:
- Normal Operation: Positive
- Degraded Operation: Negative
OVDM may represent these outcomes within one structured
determination rather than forcing one universal label.
Hierarchical Validation Determination
For complex Validation Objects, OVDM may produce a hierarchicalconclusion structure.

Overall Determination Scope
OVDM establishes the exact scope to which the Overall ValidationDetermination applies.
The determination scope must not exceed:
- legitimately executed scope,
- supported criterion scope,
- applicable evidence scope,
- reliable source scope,
- applicable object version,
- and conditions surviving cross-criterion integration.
Scope Intersection
Where required criteria support different scopes, the permissibleoverall positive scope may be constrained to the common
supported region.
Conceptually:
Positive Determination Scope ≤ Common Supported Scope of
Required Criteria
Where no coherent common scope exists, Partial Determination may
be required.
Scope Exclusion
Specific areas may need explicit exclusion.For example:
Positive Validation Determination excluding high-altitude operation.
Positive Validation Determination excluding pediatric use.
Conditional Validation Determination excluding autonomous operation
without human supervision.
Exclusions should remain part of the determination record.
Determination Depth
The determination should preserve the Validation Depthactually achieved.
Possible architecture implementations may distinguish:
- preliminary validation,
- standard validation,
- enhanced validation,
- high-assurance validation,
- or other governed depth levels.
The determination must not imply a deeper assurance level than the
validation performed.
Determination Conditions
OVDM collects and consolidates material conditions propagated from:- criterion determinations,
- Evidence Fitness,
- Source Reliability,
- Execution Conformity,
- conflict governance,
- uncertainty governance,
- cross-criterion integration,
- and scope constraints.
Conditions should not disappear merely because an overall conclusion
has been reached.
Determination Restrictions
Restrictions may specify what the determination must not be usedto imply.
Examples include:
- not applicable outside tested environment,
- not valid for another system version,
- not sufficient for regulatory approval,
- not sufficient for autonomous deployment,
- not valid after specified modification,
- or not transferable to another population.
Restrictions help prevent conclusion overreach.
Determination Limitations
Limitations describe known weaknesses or boundaries of thevalidation conclusion.
These may include:
- limited long-term evidence,
- limited rare-event coverage,
- incomplete external validation,
- constrained population representation,
- limited operational duration,
- unresolved low-frequency uncertainty,
- or other known limitations.
A positive determination may coexist with limitations.
Determination Uncertainty
OVDM preserves residual uncertainty remaining after VDCUGMand VCCIM.
The final determination should therefore be uncertainty-aware.
Where appropriate, uncertainty may be represented as:
- acceptable,
- conditionally acceptable,
- material but bounded,
- determination-limiting,
- or determination-blocking.
Determination Constraint Compliance
Before issuing the Overall Validation Determination, OVDM verifieswhether applicable Determination Constraints produced earlier have
been respected.
Examples include:
- required reduced scope,
- prohibition on unconditional positive determination,
- additional validation requirement,
- no aggregation across defined criteria,
- or mandatory Partial Determination.
Determination Rationale
A Validation Determination should include or reference sufficientrationale to explain:
- why the conclusion was selected,
- which criteria controlled it,
- which conflicts affected it,
- which uncertainty remained,
- which conditions apply,
- and why alternative determination classes were not selected where material.
Determination Authority
Where a formal determination requires identifiable authority, OVDMmay govern:
- determination issuer,
- approval authority,
- delegated authority,
- decision system,
- required independence,
- required competence,
- authority scope,
- and authorization conditions.
OVDM does not create legal authority externally.
It governs the authority used within the methodology.
Human Overall Determination
Human determination may be appropriate where integration involvessubstantial context, uncertainty, or judgment.
The governing requirement is that the human conclusion remains
constrained by:
- criteria,
- results,
- integration rules,
- conflict conditions,
- uncertainty,
- scope,
- and methodological record.
Automated Overall Determination
Where determination logic is sufficiently explicit, OVDM maybe automated.
Automated rules may implement:
- mandatory-criteria logic,
- critical-condition logic,
- hierarchical integration,
- exclusion rules,
- threshold structures,
- conditionality,
- and Determination Constraints.
The rule set should remain versioned and auditable.
AI-Assisted Overall Determination
AI may assist with:- synthesis,
- rationale preparation,
- traceability reconstruction,
- condition extraction,
- inconsistency detection,
- scope checking,
- or explanation generation.
However:
AI Assistance ≠ Authority to Invent Determination Logic
The final determination must remain grounded in governed rules
and records.
Determination Effective Point
The Overall Validation Determination should have an identifiableeffective point.
This may include:
- issuance date,
- approval date,
- validation completion date,
- or another governed reference.
This is important because the next Parent Standard must determine
the Validation State of the object over time.
Determination Is Not Necessarily Permanent
A determination reflects a governed conclusion at a specific pointbased upon a specific Validation Object and validation basis.
It may later change because of:
- new evidence,
- source reassessment,
- execution correction,
- object modification,
- method error,
- discovered conflict,
- or revalidation.

isolated conclusion.

ScenarioA diagnostic AI system is positively determined across the adult
validation population.
Pediatric validation remains Not Determinable because the evidence
basis is insufficient.
Application
OVDM limits the determination scope to the validated
adult population.
Result
The system may receive:

together with an explicit exclusion of pediatric use from the
positive determination scope.
It is not represented as universally validated.
Use Case 3 — Industrial Autonomous System
ScenarioAn industrial system satisfies all normal-operation criteria but
