D. Scope

This standard applies to soil-dependent production systems including:

  • agricultural production
  • herbal cultivation
  • garden-based production
  • soil-grown raw materials
  • environmental resource-based production systems

This standard does not apply to:

  • hydroponic-only production systems unless explicitly declared as such
  • fully synthetic production systems


1. Soil Type Disclosure

The soil environment used in production must be identifiable.

Examples include:

  • natural soil
  • mixed soil
  • artificial substrate
  • controlled environment soil system


2. Fertilization Input Transparency

Use of fertilization inputs must be declared.

Disclosure includes:

  • whether fertilization is used
  • fertilization category where applicable

Possible categories include:

  • animal manure
  • plant-based compost
  • mineral fertilizer
  • synthetic fertilizer
  • sewage-derived fertilizer

This standard does not prohibit fertilization inputs.
It requires transparent disclosure.


4. Plant Protection Practice Transparency

Use of plant protection substances must be declared.

Disclosure may include:

  • whether plant protection substances are used
  • substance category
  • frequency of application

Examples of frequency categories:

  • occasional
  • seasonal
  • regular
