Canonical Definition
An Original Asset is the primary source of a workfrom which all copies, reproductions,
or representations derive.
An original asset defines the reference point
of authenticity, authorship, and value.
Only one original asset exists per defined work
unless explicitly structured otherwise.
Why This Matters
Without a clearly defined original:
- copies cannot be distinguished
- value cannot be anchored
- ownership becomes ambiguous
- representation loses meaning
- reference
- authenticity
- structural truth
Minimum Implementation Framework (MIF)
Step 1 — Identify the SourceDefine the asset that represents the origin of the work.
Step 2 — Assign Origin Status
Confirm that the asset is not derived from another asset.
Step 3 — Establish Reference
All copies and representations must be linked
to this original.
Step 4 — Preserve Integrity
The original asset must remain identifiable
and distinguishable from all derived forms.
Use Case 1 — Museum Artwork
ScenarioA museum holds a physical painting
considered the original work.
Application
The painting is defined as the original asset under OAM™.

- all reproductions reference the original
- authenticity is preserved
