No methodology remains static indefinitely. As knowledge advances,technologies mature, operational environments change, and new
challenges emerge, methodologies should be capable of evolving
without losing the principles that define their identity.
Methodology Evolution establishes the principles that enable
methodologies to improve while preserving their purpose, scope,
structure, consistency, governance, and methodological integrity.
Evolution should be a deliberate and governed process rather than
a collection of isolated or uncontrolled changes.
Every significant modification should be documented,
understandable, traceable, and evaluated against the methodology's
original objectives and governing principles. Evolution should
strengthen the methodology by improving its applicability,
clarity, quality, and long-term relevance while maintaining
continuity for existing users and implementations.
A methodology that cannot evolve risks becoming obsolete as its
operating environment changes. Conversely, a methodology that
evolves without preserving its identity gradually becomes an
entirely different methodology. Sustainable evolution requires
balancing innovation with continuity so that methodologies remain
relevant without sacrificing the principles upon which they were
originally established.
