Canonical Definition System
Canonical DefinitionBehavioral Evidence Preservation Module (BEPM) defines the structural
conditions under which AI behavioral evidence remains preserved, accessible,
protected, retrievable, governance-valid, and suitable for future review
throughout the complete behavioral lifecycle.
BEPM governs behavioral evidence preservation.
The module establishes the governance conditions required to ensure that
valuable behavioral evidence is not lost, degraded, overwritten, or rendered
unavailable before its governance purpose has been fulfilled.
Evidence creates value beyond the moment it is produced.
Preservation protects that value.
BEPM governs that preservation.
Module Operational Space
BEPM governs:- behavioral evidence preservation
- evidence retention
- evidence protection
- evidence availability
- governance record preservation
- long-term evidence continuity
- evidence accessibility
- preservation governance
The module applies wherever AI behavioral evidence must remain available for
governance, accountability, compliance, investigation, or future
organizational learning.
Module Function
The module applies wherever systems must preserve:- long-term behavioral evidence,
- governance-valid evidence,
- accessible evidence,
- protected evidence,
- retrievable evidence,
- trustworthy governance history.
Its function is to ensure that governance evidence remains available whenever
organizations need to verify, investigate, explain, or improve AI behavior.
Minimum Implementation Framework
1. Define the Behavioral Evidence Preservation ObjectThe organization must define which behavioral evidence requires preservation.
2. Define Preservation Conditions
The system must define preservation requirements including:
- retention conditions,
- accessibility requirements,
- protection requirements,
- governance availability,
- retrieval capability,
- preservation validation.
3. Define Preservation Failure Detection Logic
The system must identify:
- missing evidence,
- degraded evidence,
- inaccessible records,
- unauthorized deletion,
- incomplete preservation,
- governance-invalid preservation.
4. Define Operational Response or Governance Logic
Governance response may include:
- preservation review,
- evidence recovery,
- governance investigation,
- compliance validation,
- preservation improvement,
- operational correction.
5. Preserve Traceability & Restrict Invalid Conditions
The system must preserve reconstructable traceability of:
- preservation activities,
- governance reviews,
- evidence access,
- validation history,
- preservation controls,
- resulting governance outcomes.
An AI behavioral environment must not remain evidence-valid if materially
significant behavioral evidence cannot be preserved, reviewed, validated,
retrieved, or governed.
Use Case 1 — AI Regulatory Compliance
ScenarioA regulatory authority requests behavioral evidence generated by an AI system
several years after operational execution.
Application
BEPM ensures that the evidence remains complete, protected, retrievable, and
governance-valid despite the passage of time.
Result
The organization demonstrates long-term compliance, strengthens governance
credibility, and supports independent regulatory review.
Use Case 2 — Autonomous Manufacturing Investigation
ScenarioAn organization investigates an operational incident involving autonomous
production systems months after the event occurred.
Application
BEPM preserves all relevant behavioral evidence, enabling investigators to
reconstruct events using complete governance records.
Result
The organization improves operational learning, strengthens accountability,
supports incident investigations, and preserves institutional knowledge.
