Canonical Definition

Audit Record Integrity Module defines the structural conditions
under which an audit record remains complete, traceable,
non-detached, and resistant to silent alteration after capture.

An audit record integrity condition is valid only if:

• the record remains linked to its originating event, state, or output
• the record path is traceable
• the record cannot be silently modified without detectable change
• the record remains distinguishable from reconstructed or substituted records
• integrity of the record is preserved across storage, review, and operational reliance
• A record that exists without preserved integrity does not satisfy ARIM.

Module Function

ARIM defines how an audit record remains structurally reliable
after capture.

The module applies where an organization must prove not only that a
record exists, but that the record has preserved its integrity from
origin to later review, validation, or reliance.

Step 1 — Define the Record Boundary

The organization must define what constitutes the audit record.

Minimum requirement:

• the record scope is explicit
• the record is distinguishable from summaries or derived reports
• the record boundary is not mixed with undefined external content

Step 2 — Define Origin Linkage

The system must define which originating event, state, or output the
record represents.

Minimum requirement:

• origin linkage is explicit
• source record identity is traceable
• detached records are excluded from valid integrity claims

Step 3 — Define Record Path

The path from capture to retention and use must remain visible.

Minimum requirement:

• storage and transfer path is traceable
• hidden substitution is excluded
• intermediary handling does not break structural continuity

Step 4 — Define Integrity Conditions

The system must define what preserves record integrity.

Minimum requirement:

• changes are detectable
• silent modification is excluded from valid integrity
• replacement, truncation, or partial substitution is identifiable

Step 5 — Preserve Distinction Between Original and Derived Forms

The system must distinguish live-origin records from later
summaries, exports, reconstructions, or interpretations.

Minimum requirement:

• original and derived forms are distinguishable
• derived records are not silently treated as originals
• integrity claims remain specific to the actual record form

Step 6 — Restrict Invalid Record Reliance

The system must not rely on an audit record as structurally valid if
its integrity path cannot be shown.

Minimum requirement:

• unverifiable record continuity is excluded
• missing linkage is not silently tolerated
• later convenience does not replace record integrity conditions

Scenario

An organization must preserve audit records for later internal
review, dispute handling, or external examination without losing
confidence in their structural integrity.

Application

ARIM is used to ensure:

• the original audit record is clearly bounded
• the path from capture to storage remains traceable
• later summaries are distinguishable from original records
• silent alteration cannot be treated as valid continuity

Result

The organization gains a materially stronger basis for proving that
the audit record remained intact and reliable from origin to
later reliance.

Scenario

An AI-assisted or automated environment produces audit-relevant
records that may later be used for verification, accountability, or
regulatory review.

Application

ARIM is used to ensure:

• the record remains linked to originating runtime conditions
• storage and handling paths are visible
• modified or derived forms are distinguishable
• the audit trail does not collapse into reconstructed narrative

Result

The organization gains stronger traceability, stronger
defensibility, and stronger confidence that audit records still
reflect the original verified reality condition.
